Three Key Takeaways from September 2024 Members Meeting

On the 17th of September 2024, we hosted a highly engaging Members Meeting at Indeed’s London office. This event was our first collaboration with our newest Trusted Partner, Indeed -the world’s #1 job site (ComScore, Total Visits, March 2024). With Indeed’s platform connecting job seekers and employers across more than 60 countries, their insights offered a unique perspective on the evolving recruitment landscape. Our speaker Jack Kennedy, Senior Economist, discussed the latest labour market trends, leveraging Indeed’s powerful data-driven tools, such as the Job Postings, Wage, and Remote Work Trackers. These tools and the insights shared helped shed light on the challenges and opportunities employers face in today's job market. One of the event's focal points was the broad-based slowdown in hiring, particularly in the UK. While job postings have moderated, the labour market remains tight, with companies striving to attract top talent.

A key theme of the presentation revolved around shifting job seeker expectations. With wage growth continuing to rise and flexible working arrangements becoming more critical, businesses are under pressure to adapt their recruitment strategies. Pay transparency has become a significant factor, as more job seekers prioritise this in their job searches. Moreover, the meeting highlighted the increasing global competition for talent, with foreign worker interest in European jobs on the rise.

Indeed’s ability to track and analyse these trends positioned the event as an invaluable opportunity for our members to gain actionable insights. As we move toward 2024 and beyond, it’s clear that employers must remain flexible and responsive to both macroeconomic changes and jobseeker preferences.

Three Key Takeaways:

  1. Hiring Slowdown: While the labour market has cooled, it remains competitive, especially in the UK. Companies must stay agile in their hiring strategies to attract the best candidates.
  2. Pay Transparency and Flexibility: With wage growth continuing and flexible work highly valued, offering clear pay information and adaptable work options is key to meeting jobseeker demands.
  3. Global Talent Competition: Interest from foreign workers in European jobs is increasing, underscoring the importance of building competitive and attractive employer brands to appeal to a broader, international talent pool.

This Members Meeting reinforced the importance of adapting to a shifting labour landscape and leveraging tools like Indeed’s to stay ahead in recruitment.
